A lovely picture of my Convertible

Post by adamleamy »

I had a nice coffee with a friend yesterday, in Cook Street Village over in Victoria.

As I pulled away, he snapped this pic -- a great picture of the car in the Fall leaves.

I see my car all the time, but that picture of it arriving by text still made my heart beat faster. They are just that kind of car!

Sincerely,

Adam

Hi, Grant and Stuart!

Sometimes, I can get caught up in projects and things with the car, and forget why I've always liked them -- they're all just so much fun to look at. On our cars, I especially like the curve from the tail lights around to the rear quarters, but on the Convertibles with the flat boot lid, that whole corner really grabs my eye -- I mean, just look at it! My friend sure takes a nice pic.

Grant, you're right about the steering wheel! Here's where it came from via the link, below, as well as the aerial bezel, a spare tail light, a couple of moss-covered sidelight markers, puddle lights with lenses uncracked, a demister actuator, dozens of screws and bits not easily available here, and a host of other parts and bits and bobs when the car hadn't been discovered and I was the only one who knew it was there. I'd pop in on business trips to Vancouver, and in time, they gave me my own overalls. They thought I was mad, pulling out bits in my suit with shirt-sleeves rolled up. They were nice fellows, there.

The steering wheel was in OK shape, but as you might guess from the picture of the donor car, it had suffered through the decades -- but was retrimmed last year when the interior was done. I really like the look and feel of that steering wheel.

Thank you both. Have a lovely weekend!

I had to run out to the shops late this afternoon and took the Jensen for a spin -- it's been a rainy week and this was the first real break where clearer weather and some free time for me coincided.

I always find that our cars look particularly nice in late-day winter and Christmas shots; maybe it's the chrome . . . they just seem to sparkle. They do look quite elegant in those evening shots. Vehicular formal wear.

The Oak Bay was a movie theatre in our village at this location; it disappeared decades ago -- there were three at one time, I think, which is hard to fathom -- but the sign has endured and was restored when we celebrated the village's 100th anniversary a few years ago. Many of you reside in areas where 100 years is recent history. But for these parts, that's quite old.

I note the Merc in front of the Jensen. I think it's a C300, and as I pulled in behind it, I was a bit surprised at how much taller it sat than the Jensen.

Sincerely,

Adam

What a Beautiful Beautiful picture Adam, in my opinion there couldn't be much else to compare or comes closeImage, maybe an Aston Volante Convertible is close but I would still rather have the Jensen..That just looks a Million $$, with the class & elegance of nothing else...StunningImage..I loved your description of fine classy evening ware in a car form Adam..That writer once said it ticks over on idle like the "Dukes Bath Water Dissapearing Down the Bath Plug"..You cannot buy Class..it's just there in that Pic

It does looks stunning, but always especially good to see the owner at the wheel! They are something that is practical too, that solid Canadian built motor don't forget! Such an exclusive high quality and durable product if looked after as you have shown.

Thank you, Dave, John, and Grant. I didn't go there with the idea of taking pics of the car, but as I walked back along and approached from across the street, fully lost in work-thought, I looked up to judge traffic so I could cross, and momentarily forgot that I'd brought the Jensen. For that split second, until I remembered the car was actually mine, my heart actually skipped! Such are Jensens to those who know. So I snapped a couple of pics.

You three may not realize it, or even think about it, but through this year and years previous, you and others provided guidance to me (and to others, of course) that I have been smart enough to follow that made it so that car was an actual option for me to start up and run errands with yesterday, without doubt, concern, or anxiety.

In no small way, that the car was there on Oak Bay Avenue yesterday afternoon, after an easy start and easy drive with lots of excitement and absolutely no drama, is entirely down to your generosity with your time and your experience, and your patience with me given my many skill limitations. The car may well be in the pictures, but each of you made those pictures possible.

So, put a picture in your minds of a grateful owner, and the image you see will most certainly be me. Merry Christmas to each of you, with deep appreciation for your unrelenting kindness.

Sincerely,

Adam

Hi, all;

Our house is listed for sale as we're ready to move back to downtown Vancouver. We just had the photographer back to take post_Christmas pics now that we've put up some of our Spring art and decorations. I'd asked them to take some pics of the garage, so folks might see how it works for them if they're car enthusiasts, and this time, they took pics from both sides of the car to better show the space.

I thought this pic was interesting -- that's the old bonnet I replaced with a new one from Robey's in 2024. I only just noticed the reflection in it.

Sincerely,

Adam

Michael, it took a bit each year over 20-odd years here to make the garage a bit more friendly. I have to say that getting the floor epoxied two years ago made all the difference in the world -- brightened it up and made lying on the floor or being down on it a pleasure. Before that project, it was a 100-year-old concrete slab and was rather unpleasant. In my case, a tidier, cleaner garage made so many more projects for me possible. And fun!

We're looking at townhouses in Vancouver, and many come with a tall condo tower at each end of the row of ten-to-20 multi-floor townhomes, or row houses as some might call them. But there's one must-have: There needs to be a secure private garage with at least one space in the secure underground garage where the Interceptor can park behind a locked door: That way I can have my tools and supplies in the garage and can still work on the car. In some places, the private garage is attached to the home by a stairway, which is nice; in others, it's just a locked garage in the broader underground parking. Neither are all that common, but they do exist in developments from around 2000 on. Working on cars, save for adding washer fluid, a bit of oil, and the like, is not allowed in the secure, open parking areas of these places. So the garage space for the car will be a bit smaller, but it will be secure and allow me to keep the car and continue to do projects on it. I'll adapt!

Sincerely,

Adam
