Surviving SP's update

Post by Billy Rootes »

I now have 129 surviving cars by chassis number and registration. I have another 14 cars by registration only (6 UK & 8 rest of world). A big thank you to all who have let me have their car details. If you have an SP please check with me to see if I have your car details. I would also be grateful if you could let me know of any dismissed cars so I could note these. I estimate there must be at least 150 surviving cars. With a total of 232 cars manufactured that is an excellent survival rate (65%). However, there may be more, I have not accounted for 92 cars, and I only have 11 cars as definitely dismissed.

That's 131/4356, my father's car, now mine. The images were taken at the Dering Arms, Pluckley, Kent.

Hi John thanks for your comments . Your SP is absolutely faultless and a beautiful colour. Happy Christmas to you and all in the JOC.
Look forward to the Dering Arms or Five Bells, Brabourne next year.

Hi.I owned an SP in the late 90’s -00’s reg no
BED798K.I was trying to get it back on the road but stupidly and regretfully ended up selling it and getting an on the road mk 111,which I still have today.
I just wondered if it was still around today and what it looks like now.It used to be silver and turquoise!!
Thanks Lea.

Good afternoon Lea,
Looking at Calver Chassis Data, there was not an SP registered BED 789K from new. Do you know the original registration or the chassis number? DLVA has BED 789K first registered April 72 and currently SORN with the last change of V5 on the 08/01/13. I am almost certain it has survived if there was a V5 change in January 2013. Your say when you had the car it was silver and turquoise, I suspect it was Silver Grey from new and the turquoise was a bottom half repaint? Do you have an image you could let me have?
Best as always,
John

Hi John.I purchased the car from Medway Interceptors, unfortunately I don’t have any more info like chassis number,I am afraid I was a newbie owner back then and a bit naive ,still learning things now !! I do regret selling it but I do have some pictures.

Hi John

BED 798 K was Chassis No 131/4603 and was originally Silver Grey with a Black Vinyl Roof and Blue Interior
Your view on a bottom half respray is probably correct and i have a record of a number of cars that have undergone this type of repaint
Original Registration No was MXE 179 K
I believe the car was sold in 2008 for £3,000 and requiring restoration
Last Logbook issued 08.01.2013
Car registered on SORN 09.2024

I note that Lea Phillips had the car for sale in JOC Magazine No 168 03/04.2003 as requiring restoration for £2,600

Hi Lea
I note that you also owned a Mk 111 Interceptor from 2002 till at least 2021 - do you still own this car?

Kind regards

Jim Smith
JOC Mem No 1639
136/8791 RJF 17 Owned since Sept 1978

Hi Jim.Yes I do still own the mk 111,wish I still had the SP too !!
I purchased my mk 111 while I was selling the SP ,due to a young family and just not having the time to restore it ,and not knowing enough about them.An acquaintance decided to sell his mk 111 ,which was on the road,I purchased it and I still own it today.
It had reg no. JOW609L when I got it,but I got its original reg no.SEA460L back on it,chassis 136/8504.
Thanks Lea.

Lea & Jim,

Thanks for the heads up on 131/4603. The fact that it is SORN 09/2024 indicates it has survived so that's good.

Yes Lea, you should have kept it!

Well done Jim you doing a great job, how many cars have you got a record for now?

Best as always,

John
