This year’s Spring Weekend is at the Shillingford Bridge Hotel, Shillingford Hill, on the bank of the river Thames near Wallingford, Oxford.
Price is £140 per room, per night, dinner bed and breakfast, which is very reasonable for the area. The dinner is 3 courses and includes coffee.
Single rooms are a bargain £70 for dinner bed and breakfast (i.e. no single supplement)
Local members Bill Smith and Wendy Froomes found the hotel for us and will be organising a scenic drive and a walk for anyone feeling more energetic. The hotel has previously been used by the Aston Martin and MG owners’ clubs.
The drive will include a visit to Nuffield Place, a National Trust property that was once owned by William Morris of Morris Motors fame. When Morris was elevated to the peerage in 1934 he took his title from the local village becoming Lord Nuffield.
Nuffield Park has a tea room and a number of local woodland walks. For those with families in tow there is an object handling room, with vintage clothes to try on, vintage pedal cars in the yard (sorry, for children only!), and item cards in the house to be spotted. It is also the only house I can think of with a well equipped workshop in a cupboard in a bedroom.
For those that would prefer to visit nearby Oxford there is a bus stop 200 yards from the hotel, there is limited parking in Oxford so we don’t recommend you drive in. There are also a number of other places of interest nearby.
To book please phone the hotel (01865 858 567) and ask for Lauren, mention the Jensen Owners’ Club when booking.
