The 2017 International Weekend will be held at the Derby Conference Centre, Derby on 16/17/18 June 2017.
Derby sits on the edge of the southern part of the Peak District (White Peak) boasting not only the magnificent countryside but also the incomparable Chatsworth House and gardens.
The city is also of course an historic centre of engineering both for the railways and aero engines.
In a break from our usual country house venues, this one is in central Derby; the Grade II listed building in the Art Deco style originally built as a training centre for railway staff. It has been transformed into a 4 star hotel (all rooms en suite) and conference centre. It is readily accessible from the M1 and M42, if you are not able to bring your Jensen it is also, as you might expect, only minutes from Derby railway station. East Midlands Airport is also close, a transfer bus stops opposite the hotel. As this is an urban setting security will be provided for the car park on both Friday and Saturday nights.
We have booked the whole centre thus avoiding the inevitable issues when we have to share with a wedding or other gathering, rooms will be allocated on a first come first served basis so early booking is recommended. You can find out more about the venue at http://thederbyconferencecentre.com/
Friday 16th June
Arrival and catch up with old friends, a rolling hot buffet will be served in the sunken lounge.
Saturday 17th June
After breakfast the club AGM, your chance to have your say about club affairs and learn what is going on.
The trade stands will be open and of course the finest Jensens surviving will be on view, lunch will be served at the hotel followed by a scenic drive. Derby is on the edge of the southern part of the Peak District (the White Peak), we will have the opportunity to take in some of the most beautiful countryside in England.
Benchmarking has become a popular event and service for members in recent years, learn from an experienced owner whether that issue or strange noise is of concern or whether ‘they all do that’. Benchmarking is so popular that prior booking is essential, please contact Keith Lee concours@joc.org.uk
In the evening we will have our dinner dance at the hotel, entertainment will be provided by the 8-piece ‘Souled as Seen’ band. In answer to several questions although many members choose to adopt black tie, there is no dress code.
Sunday 18th June
The Concours judging will start at 10am and there will be a separate ‘Show’n’Shine’ competition for the other Jensens reflecting the interests of those who derive most pleasure from using their cars. If necessary some benchmarking appointments will be on Sunday. Lunch will be a BBQ and at about 3 pm we will hold a prize giving before we all head home.
