David and Jane Turnage are organizing an event this summer to celebrate 75 years of the early Jensen Interceptor. One of the Interceptor cabriolets was owned from new by the English composer, Sir Benjamin Britten, so we have created an itinerary that visits his residence and the Suffolk concert hall which he and his partner set up in the 1960s.
The itinerary for the early Interceptor weekend is outlined below, with hotel costings. This event is open to all Jensen enthusiasts but we especially want to see a collection of early Interceptors.
On Thursday 14/ 8 the event starts from 15.00pm at Ufford Park Resort Hotel (IP12 1QW) and a buffet dinner will be served in the main restaurant to allow people to arrive as and when. The views over the golf course are very good.
On Friday 15/8 we leave the hotel to go to Snape Maltings. There will be roped off area next to the river just for us. We will also have access to a hut selling drinks and bacon butties (payable at the venue) there are some shops and another cafe which sells light lunches. So lots to see.
In the afternoon we will be able to visit The Red House in Aldeburgh (Benjamin Britten lived here and kept his early interceptor there) the museum has records and photographs of his life and cars.
In the evening we meet in the bar and we are eating a 2 course meal in the hotel restaurant.
On Saturday we have a free day to visit local attractions. Bridge Classics may also open for tours of their workshops (they have several 541s awaiting restoration) Sutton Hoo, the Leiston long shop, Framlingham Castle, Orford Castle and Aldeburgh are all worth a visit.
In the evening we meet in the bar before all sitting down to gala dinner in the Vista room which has still more amazing views.
